As 2025 draws to a close, I feel like I’ve hit a nice medium (pun intended) in my two writing platforms – this blog, plus my Medium page. I’ll say a bit in this post about the blogging half.
Perhaps I’ll mirror it in a Medium article.
Read on for some thoughts on the blogging world today. And, as always, I hope you enjoy reading. Send along your comments and suggestions for what to cover next!

As we’ve passed the 7 year mark on the blog, we’ve accumulated lots of widely read posts. But what have readers been digging this year?
I looked into the stats to find out. Here’s what you’ve been reading the most among the 2025 posts:
1. The NIMBY vs. YIMBY False Dichotomy
2. Epicureanism 101: Types of Desires
3. Voter Hypocrisy and Iowa City Politics
When I read through the most viewed posts each year, I always love the variety it offers. As readers, you’re an eclectic bunch. You draw from the widest variety of topics to put together something that makes sense.
In this list, we have a post on a broad political topic, a philosophical topic, and a zoom in on local politics in Iowa City. They’re seemingly different topics, but again we can draw links.
The two political posts show that you’re interested in learning some sort of in-depth analysis of political issues, whether it’s a look at housing politics or a closer examination of the reasoning behind voting for particular candidates. And I’m especially pleased to see one of the Epicureanism posts on the list. I think it shows readers are also interested in learning how to live well.
That speaks quite well to you.
Question for readers: Any other posts from 2025 that you particularly enjoyed? What’s missing from our list?
2026 Preview
Finally, that leaves us with the question of what’s coming next.
I’ve got some ideas ready. We’ll start the new year with a long overdue review of a great book on Marxism by a friend. And then we’ll launch into some analysis of both Trump and the left.
Beyond that, it’s an open question. I’m sure the new year will bring plenty of topics for us to discuss.
It always does.
