In the sixth anniversary post of the blog, I told readers I enjoy writing the annual anniversary post. And it’s true. I do! It’s fun to look back and think about how far the blog has come. We’re well past the half decade point, and we’ve made it through a lot of news and events – a brutal presidential campaign, a pandemic, and what I can only describe as a revanchist response to the cultural politics of the 2010s.

Whew – that’s a lot! Thanks for reading.

I always aim to keep things fresh, and this past year saw the addition of a major new component: the philosophical counseling page. I’ve been accepting clients for a couple of months. Check it out!

I’m also still writing over at Medium.

With all that said, let’s take a look at the data from Base and Superstructure.

Readership Data and Most Popular Posts

The good news is that, once again, readership rose in the last year! The more complicated news is that this really varied a lot in terms of individual pages. The site’s main page had about double the number of visitors from June 2024 to now than it did from June 2023 to June 2024. That’s incredible! But individual pages didn’t really do as well.

You win some and you lose some, I guess.

Here are the new posts that did the best this year:

1. Purity Politics and the 2024 Election
2. The Descent of Left Activism
3. Anti-Capitalist Capitalism and the Church of HR

That’s all well and good. But here’s the thing – I can’t find a theme here at all. We’ve got one article on the 2024 election, one complain-y article about activism, and one discussion of a Current Affairs article. They really don’t have a lot in common.

Readers who see common themes should let me know. Write about it in the comments below!

Next Steps

What’s coming up next on the blog?

Really, it’s hard to say! I still enjoy writing. And I’m committed to keeping an outlet for free writing. My writing on Medium isn’t free. And, of course, my Patreon isn’t free. That leaves us with the blog, and I’m thrilled to keep it around.

So, keep visiting the blog. I’ll be around, and surely there will be some things for us to discuss.
