A great piece of news: today is the three year anniversary of Base and Superstructure! As with past birthday posts, I’ll point out that I started this blog in June 2018. I had lots of ideas bouncing around in my head on various topics, and I needed a creative outlet.

Readership and Most Popular Posts

Overall, even during a remarkably unstable year, readership of the blog remained very stable. Yes, we saw a typical drop in summer readership last year. But it then quickly recovered to about 2,000 readers per month. And it remained around there for the rest of the last year.

In terms of individual pages, here are the most commonly visited pages over the course of the last year:

1. Political Quiz: Leftist, Liberal, or Bernie?
2. DSA Caucuses: What’s the Deal?
3. Class Reductionism: What is it, and is it Bad?

Readers might notice that these are older posts. And that’s true. Each of these posts benefits from good SEO and search results. But in terms of newer posts, here are the ones with the greatest number of visits:

1. Iowa Freedom Riders: A Review
2. What The Snake Emoji Gets Wrong About Warren
3. Karl Marx and the ‘Rights of Man’

I suppose with these posts, we find a greater focus on current events. Even the Marx post focuses on recent issues of censorship and rights.

From Blog to Book(s)

There’s one other part of the last year of blogging worth mentioning. I’ve started collecting and publishing ideas that often began on the blog! So far, I have three publications worth mentioning. Two e-books: the first on Trumpism and the second on the Warren campaign and the progressive movement.

And then there’s the larger project: a book on left foreign policy. Readers can purchase that book here.

Finances

I always give at least a brief financial update in these birthday posts. However, the finances always end up about the same: the blog makes a bit less money than it requires to run. That’s still largely true, though I created a couple of additional financial components this year.

One I mentioned in the previous section. I have two e-books and one paperback book for sale. For a second component, I added a Patreon page for the blog!

The Fourth Year

What’s coming up in the blog’s fourth year? Of course, I can’t reveal everything! But for now, I’ll say that I plan to continue discussing the yearly theme of the corporate world. Plus, I have some upcoming posts on political and movement organizing. So, I hope readers enjoy!
